52 New Conditions Added to Social Security’s Program to Speed-Up the Approval Process

Doctor filling out paper workCommissioner of Social Security, Michael J. Astrue, announced today the inclusion of 52 new Compassionate Allowances conditions.

The Compassionate Allowances program was started in 2008 and meant to be a way of expediting the determination process for those who have disabilities that clearly meet Social Security's Definition of Disability. The regular determination process can take months to complete. But, in these situations, this process would end up being a waste of time/money and would not be in the best interest of the person with the disability. Using this method the claimant can start receiving benefits in a matter of days. Since its inception the program has expedited disability claims for nearly 173,000 applicants. In order to be accepted into this program you must have medical records that prove that you have the specific condition.

The program currently consists of 113 conditions. The 52 newly added conditions will take effect in August 2012. Here is a list of the new conditions:
