Guitarist with No Arms Performs as Part of Loyola Week

The Jesuit Center at Loyola University New Orleans presents "A Night of Hope," a concert by inspirational Catholic musician and speaker Tony Melendez, a Nicaraguan guitarist and vocalist born without arms and with a club foot. He has truly overcome his disability to be a true inspiration. The concert, part of Loyola Week's Centennial celebrations, takes place Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in Louis J. A new study by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Reseach shows that people who suffer from obesity and accompanying health problems, such as high blood pressure, experience accelerated cognitive decline, more intense mental illness, and sustained co-morbid conditions later in life.The study, performed by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, tested 6,401 patients, 53 percent of which were normal weight, 38 percent overweight and 9 percent obese, over a period of a decade for cognitive ability. Over the years, participants underwent a selection of cognitive tests, including assessed reasoning, short-term memory, and verbal fluency.

Spencer West is an activist and motivational speaker from Toronto, Canada. When he was 5-years old his legs were amputated because of a rare genetic disorder he was born with called sacral agenesis. According to The Star, West mother, Tonette, said, "Doctors told us when he was a baby that he would never do much with his life, ...They said he should stick to activities like reading and writing."
